What does "match" mean in the context?

We tried to counter that by prompting people to make an extra donation after they have voted. We even match some of the additional donations ourselves.

Is this saying "when people make an extra donation, we also make the additional donations following their example?"

    Thank you.

    Re: match

Yes. They "match" each contribution with one of their own. You see this a lot with charity drives. A company or some other benefactor will offer to match donations given.

This is to encourage donations. If I know that my donation of $10 will result in $20 going to charity, I might be more inclined to give.
