    Reported speech

He said , 'I am tired'.

Grammar books teach us to change 'Direct speech' to 'reported speech' as follows:

e.g He said that she was tired.

In spoken conversations, is it correct for us to use a present tense rather a past tense when we report a conversation? My examples are as follows:-

    1. He said he is tired.
    2. He told me he is tired.

Yes it is, as long as the conversation took place very recently.

A better title would have been
    He said he is/was tired.

'Thread titles should include all or part of the word/phrase being discussed.'
