    if nothing else

1-It is good that John and his wife got back together; if nothing else, for the sake of their child.
Does the 'if nothing else' part modify 'it is good' or 'John and is wife got back together'.

Did they get back together, if nothing else, for the sake of their child? Or is it good, if for nothing else, for the sake of their child?

    Gratefully.

It makes more sense like this: "It is good that John and his wife got back together; for the sake of their child, if for no other reason."

    Re: if nothing else

    Thank you very much Bhiasahab,

"It is good that John and his wife got back together; for the sake of their child, if for no other reason."

And here 'for the sake of their child, if for no other reason' modifies 'it is good', right?
The sentence is not saying that they got back together for the sake of their child, if for no other reason.

    Gratefully,
    Navi.

Yes, you're right- their getting back together is good for the child.
