recommend (someone) to (verb)

I learned that the above form is used only in BrE and not in AmE.
("I recommend you to go" in BrE, and "I recommend you go" in AmE.)
Following this rule, I'm trying to convert the following sentence to AmE (and having trouble doing so.)

Which do you recommend the students to buy, A or B?

What would it be like in AmE?

More common, at least where I live, "Which do you suggest that the students buy, A or B."

I would say "I recommend that you go", too. (BrE speaker)

Thank you, both of you.

Which do you recommend the students buy, A or B?
Which do you recommend that the students buy, A or B?

I see.
If it's "he", not "the students", would it be like the following (if I use "recommend")?

Which do you recommend that he should buy, A or B? (BrE)
Which do you recommend that he buy, A or B? (AmE)

I don't use "should" with "recommend" (BrE). I find it tautologous. For me "recommend" means "think/suggest that you should". I would say "Which do you recommend [that] he buy, A or B?"
