    Power Behind

I have a question about the use of "behind":

    "power behind a gator's bite"

I cannot find a good dictionary definition for "behind" that would fit this usage. Could the example be wrong?

What is the power behind a politician? - The influence he has over people. What is the power behind a gator's bite - The strong muscles in his jaw.

Think of it this way. If people support you, they stand behind you. Then, you could say "The real power behind me are the people who support me."

"The rock plunged into the sea to the bottom." What is the question here? The rock fell into the sea and continued falling until it hit the bottom of the sea,
