Which collocation is better?

Which collocation is better?

- When she died everyone came to .... their respect. ( pay/ show)

I think pay is more common in this sense. What's your idea?

I agree that "pay" is the natural word. The final word should be "respects".

Pay/show one's respects? would have been a better title for this thread.

Thank you. Only one question left. Some of my friends say that if we want to use Pay with respect we should use a plural form of respect. They say:

Pay respects
Show respect

Are they right? What do you say?

It should be pay your/our/their, etc respects ​IMO.

In my opinion, it should be "pay their respects" or "show respect".
