    for example - predicate, subject

    For example, phrases like "Continued on page 3” redirect the reader to a page where the article is continued.

    I have a question about the phrase "for example" in the sentence above. The words in bold should represent the predicate and the underlining denotes the subject of the sentence. What function withing the sentence does the phrase at the beginning have?

    It functions as an adverb. It is just a way of introducing an example of what is being said.
