    Question The usage of For and To

    What's the correct use of the TO and FOR prepositions and the explanation for its usage?

    You are very important for me.

    You are very important to me.

    She longed for a baby.

    She longed to a baby.

    You are very important to me.
    Natural.

    She longed for a baby.
    Natural.

    She longed to a baby.
    Unnatural.

    I don't think there are general rules for choosing prepositions. You just have to memorize the various cases.
