Suddenly, I was awakened from my sleep. .

Suddenly, l was awakened from my sleep. My mother was beside me. She reminded me that l had to attend an interview for a job.

    Is the comma optional? Thanks.

It is usual to use a comma after an adverb that begins a sentence. I would use it but would not insist on it.
