to place an embargo on speech =? to give somebody silent treatment

    Hello everybody!

Do the sentences presented below mean the same?

Since our last argument, my better half has been placing an embargo on speech.

Since our last argument, my better half has been giving me silent treatment.

I think so, but I prefer to check with you.

    Thank you.

The first sentence is probably a humorous attempt to avoid the cliche of the second. Yes, 1. probably means 2. if the context is right.
