I have a question about the meaning of propel the ball into play

    The text is about Boccia.
The BC3 class players, who are unable to propel the ball themselves, are permitted to use an assistive device
such as a ramp to propel the ball into play.
In this context, what does 'propel the ball into play' mean?
Does it mean move the ball into the field or make the ball into action?
    Thank you in advance.:)

In Bocce, the player rolls/throws the ball down the field. It is a type of lawn bowling.

This must be talking about handicapped players who can not physically roll the ball. So they release the ball from a ramp, gravity providing the motive force to the ball.
