    really is

You have to be there to understand how beautiful this country really is. - Would a native speaker say this, if not, is it grammatical and ok?

    Thank you!

    Re: really is

    I am not a teacher.

It seems from the title of the thread that you are asking about "really is", which is fine. There is a problem with the sentence, though.

Either, "You have to be here to understand how beautiful this country really is."

Or, "You have to be there to understand how beautiful that country really is."

    Good catch, Roman.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    Re: really is

I agree with Roman about the corrections of "this" and "that".

I may alone in this, but I would use "You would" or "You'd" at the beginning.

I agree. "You'd have to be here to believe it" is what our old-school hockey announcer says.
