    Participles and Gerunds..

Singing in the rain, Samuel enjoyed a lot.

After singing in the rain, Samuel was unwell.

"singing" is a participle in the first case and is a gerund in the second case. Is my understanding correct?

    Hello, bharosey.

Yes, your understanding is correct, in my opinion.

    Re: Participles and Gerunds..

The first sentence is not correct English. What did Samuel enjoy?

    Re: Participles and Gerunds..

The first is very unnatural. We would say either "Samuel very much enjoyed singing in the rain", "Singing in the rain - Samuel enjoyed it a lot", or "Singing in the rain was something Samuel enjoyed a lot". We wouldn't connect those ideas with a comma.

    Edit: Cross-posted with 5jj.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
