What on earth would they have to built something like this?

1-Is this form of question correct?

What on earth would they have to build something like this? (What can we say instead of "would" here?)

2- How many different phrases like "what on earth" are used to intensify a question? I know two of them.

    1. Why in God's name .... ?
    2. Where the hell ..... ?

Re: What on earth would they have to built something like this?

Your question should start with "Why on earth would they...".

    You could say:
What in God's name caused you to...
How the hell/in God's name did you...
    Who the hell decided...

Notice the frequent religious inclusions in those usages.

    What about:
Why on earth did they have to build something like this?

That works. Or "Why on earth did they build something like this?"

    not a teacher

To continue with Mike's religious theme: "What the devil do you think you're doing?", and "What the dickens do you…?", which is a euphemism for the same.

Something weird is happening with "likes". I "liked" Mike's post and now the "like" has disappeared. I notice that other "likes" have been coming and going as well. Also, when I have a notification it takes me to my profile but no "like" is recorded there, in fact nothing has changed there since April 1st. I presume this is not happening only to me.

There appears to be a problem with the system. I "liked" your post. It still seems to be there.

    I am not a teacher.

I've been experiencing the same thing since last Thursday and I find it disconcerting to not know who's clicking on what.
