    Rather than having us create situations where each could be used, please describe the situation you want to use it in.

    As an additoinal note, I expect 95% of the time, as a stand-alone sentence, the first one is the one you want.
    I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
