    Was taken as

    Hello UE's members

What's the meaning of "was taken as" in these sentences ?

In this report, he presented his new idea of an expanding Universe (he also derived Hubble's law and provided the first observational estimation of the Hubble constant[10]) but not yet that of the primeval atom. Instead, the initial state was taken as Einstein's own finite-size static universe model

    In the bold sentence :
Initial state is belong to Einstein or Lemaitre ?
What's the best and simple translate of the sentence ?

    Re: Was taken as

Einstein's model was used for the initial state.

Lemaitre doesn't appear in your quote or on the pages which you link to. The "initial state" may have been taken by Lemaitre (or by anyone else not mentioned) from Einstein's finite-size static universe model.

    No.

Lemaitre had an idea of an expanding universe. It had to expand from an intial state. For this initial state, he chose Einstein's finite-size static model. The idea of the initial state, however, was Lemaitre's. Einstein had no need for an initial state because he wasn't talking about the universe changing from anything. (This might not be all scientifically accurate, but it's what the quoted sentence means in plain English.)
