    consumes itself

Is the following sentence grammatically correct?

A good teacher is like a candle, it consumes itself to light the way for others.

That's a comma splice. Some would accept it.

    Re: consumes itself

Comma splices (two independent clauses separated by only a comma) can be acceptable in a short sentence with two clauses that are closely related.

In my opinion, this sentence is a bit long for an acceptable comma splice. I would place a semicolon after "candle".

I do like the simile in your post, however.

I don't. Candles don't consume themselves. Fire consumes them.

    Re: consumes itself

It is a simile, not a science project.

It doesn't matter what it is. The simile is quite bad, imo.
Please, correct all my mistakes. I should know English perfectly and if you show me my mistakes I will achieve my dream a little bit faster. A lot of thanks.

Then is it correct to say "it sacrifices itself to light the way for others"?
