    subjunctives

    Hi guys,

    1) What does "Step off" mean?

    2) What are "subjunctives", I mean like we have to use "see" as a subjunctive for an incident that happened in the past then we do not have to use "saw" or if we are using it for the future or present then we do not have to use "Sees", is that right? Let me give you 2 examples, so you can understand it in a better way.

    1) Please get out of here lest he see us.

    2) He stayed in the room lest he disturb anyone.

    Re: subjunctives

"Step off" can have a variety of meanings, including (slang) a warning to leave someone alone.

    Other definitions are here.

The subjunctive mood is a very broad subject. Try Googling "subjunctive" and read several grammar web pages.

Your two subjunctive sentences are correct. But there is a lot more to the subjunctive mood than the word "lest".

    See information about "lest" here.
