    concentrated civilization

    Hello there,

From Sigurd F. Olson's Search for the Wild, he wrote:

It is a long jump from the life of those days to the concentrated civilization of our cities and larger towns and it is rather hopeless to believe that in the short space of a generation or two, we can completely root out of our systems the love of the simple life and the primitive. It is still deeply rooted and it will be hundreds or thousands of years before we lost very much of it.

I do not understand what the concentrated civilization is. Please advise.

    Thank you, Beeja

Think of it as many people living together in a small space.

    Re: concentrated civilization

This is exactly what I thought when reading it. It sounds to me like moving from wild, natural environment into the packed society. Your answer confirmed my thought. Thank you. :)
