I really would take it for a test drive first.

Hello, teachers! I have a question.

This is a question form a English proficiency test.

A : Have you decided about buying that car?
B: Not yet. I really ___________ take it for a test drive first.

    (a) can (b) may (c) would (d) should

    The answer is (d) should.

But is it possible to choose (c)?

I think (c) can be a possible answer, because I learned that 'would' is more polite form of "will"

If it is not possible can I ask why?

    Thank you in advance!

    D is the best answer.

"Would like to" would fit in the blank.

Thank you very much for your reply! I have one more question. If D is the best answer, is there still any chance that C could be one of the possible answers? Or does it sound awkward to native speakers?

C would only work with Dave's addition. (Post 2)

"would" is incorrect. There is no possibility at all of C being acceptable. It's not awkward; it's wrong.
