I had to meet my friends here to practice for our orchestra performance next week.

Why are you at school? My son says:

I had to meet my friends here to practice for our orchestra performance next week.

    VS

I had to meet my friends to practice for our orchestra performance next week.

Are both useable? Should I omit her.

    The "here" is optional.

    Would a native include it?

Some would, some won't. Some might on one day and not on the next.

Of course, there is always the possibility that the "here" is included as an emphasis as well. Maybe the parent thought they were meeting somewhere else, so the son explains he had to meet them here.

If something is optional, you will always find people using the different forms.
