    Hi guys,

    Can we say "one day earlier to your competetion you cannot drink water" , or do we need to say one day prior.

    Is it just that day before that they can't, or should they begin to not drink water one day before and not drink any until after the competition?

    Not a teacher, but here is my guess :

    You should not drink water one day prior to your competition.
    Here it means that it would be better that you do not drink one day prior to the competition.
    You should not = It's probably a bad idea

    You must not drink water one day prior to your competition.

    Here it means that it's prohibited to drink one day prior to the competition.
    You must not = It's imperative that it does not happen
