    Release or lose is more suitable for asking a baby to put the thing down?

    I am not a teacher.

    I don't think it would make a lot of difference to a baby what you say, but if you're talking to someone else I'd say, "You're holding tightly, please release/relax your grip"

    Yes, "let it go" makes sense.
    @ mampwamp. Do you mean "loosen your grip"? Note the spelling.

    Yes, loosen your grip is more suitable.
