    Given the kiss of life

    Would you please explain the last sentence to me that why we don't say "was given" instead of "given" in the blank space?

    Please note that it is sentence #8.

    You are correct. I would have said "was given" instead of just "was."

    The drowning boy was pulled out of the river and ........ the kiss of life by a medic.

    Though you repeat the helping verb "was", it bears repeating because of the importance of cause and effect and of parallelism.

    'Was' doesn't need to be repeated. The first 'was' covers the second clause and beyond.
    "The drowning boy was pulled out of the river, carried to the river bank, laid under a tree, and given the kiss of life by a medic." - Correct
