I have a question about 'whatever'.

    Hi, teachers.

I do not fully understand how 'whatever' is used in English.
If I use 'whatever' in the sentence below. Is it incorrect?
Please see the below sentence. Thank you in advance.

Staff were asked to remove whatever from their desktops in preparation for the weekend office relocation.

Re: I have a question about 'whatever'.

Staff were asked to remove whatever (they had) from their desktops in preparation for the weekend office relocation.

    It's truncated speech.

Re: I have a question about 'whatever'.

    Or:

'Staff were asked to remove whatever was on their desks...'
