    Past perfect

    Hi guys,

    Please check this sentence "When I started watching that movie it had alreay been half finished".

    I am not a teacher.

    "When I started watching that movie it was already half finished."

    I would probably say "half over" or "halfway through".

    So we can't use "Had done" or have I used it incorrectly, if we cannot use "Had done"here then my question is why because here we are moving 1 step back in past.

    Your original is totally incorrect.
    If you want to use unusual English, you could say, "...it had already half finished", but not "... had already been half finished".
    A movie that had already been half finished is a movie that hasn't completed production yet.
