Question I'm confused about this statement. Could you help me understand it?

I'm applying to a college and I need help understanding this statement (I'm confused!).

    Here's the statement,

"A total of all subject grades in 2 sittings taken within 12 months of each other will be allowed."

Does this mean that they will accept grades that were taken in two sittings each sitting 6 months apart or does it mean that they will only accept grades that were obtained in 2 sittings that are 12 months apart.

Anyways, my question is what does the statement mean?

Can you provide more context? How often are these "sittings" offered? Who is accepting the grades? Etc.

The college is accepting the grades.

I'm talking about Advaced Level examinations which are offered every 6 months. It usually takes two years to complete. Some students do it by taking it once every year while others do it twice every year. My question is do they allow for students doing it twice (2 sittings) every year?

    I am not a teacher.

It seems to be saying that they will take the total of the grades obtained in two sittings as long as the two sittings took place within a span of 12 months.

This means no more than 12 months apart, so both six-month and 12-month gaps are possible.

so since I've done the exam at 6 month intervals for two years, I would have 4 sittings. Does this mean I'm eligible? Or should this strictly be just two sittings?

Your local teacher is best placed to interpret poorly-expressed rules like this.
