    a third vs the third

What does "a third" mean? Doesn't it focus on order?

14)...A fast life with only quick food can make people sick. Finally, teaching our children to cook and eat properly is a third option...

Re: a third vs the third

They must have given two previous options. They would be the first option and the second option. The suggestion following 'Finally' is the third option they've given. It's third in the list they've given, not necessarily the thing you should try third.

Re: a third vs the third

    I am not a teacher.

In this context it means number three in a list of options; the third one.

Saying a third option rather than the third option is a way of indicating that the options aren't an established list but rather possibilities.
