gave him a job in order to

    Are these sentences correct:

1-They gave him a job in order to have something to do.

2-They gave him a job in order to earn some money.

3-They gave him a job in order for him to have something to do.
4-They gave him a job in order for him to earn some money.

They seem OK to me. They might all be considered a bit wordy.

    Gratefully,
    Navi.

    I am not a teacher.

They're OK, but 1 and 2 are (intentionally) ambiguous, while 3 and 4 -for all their wordyness- aren't.

Re: gave him a job in order to

Both 1 and 2 are odd. As written, both have "they" doing something or earning something.

Both 3 and 4 can be improved.

3-They gave him a job so that he would have something to do.
4-They gave him a job so that he could earn some money.
