I am trying to make a sentence using ' annotate' or ' annotation' to explain how to annotate a text to my students, but I am not sure how to use it in a sentence. If you see any mistakes in the following sentences, can I have your comments?

    When you annotate a text,

1.annotate important points/or notes in the margine or in the space on the page.

    2. Do annotation about the main points of the text in the margine or in the space on the page.

    Re: annotate

If I was explaining how to annotate a text, I would not use the word 'annotate' in the explanation.
    "How to annotate a Text:
    - make notes in the margins ...
    - note only the important parts ..." etc.
You annotate the text, not the important points.
