    As soon as

    Hi guys,

    Which one is correct.

"He went down as soon as he went up" or "As soon as he went up he came down" or "He came down as soon as he had gone up"?

    Re: As soon as

Don't use 'went'. 'As soon as he got up [informal]/arrived at the top he came down.'

    (So you've used that cable-car too )

    Re: As soon as

If 'he had gone up', he had left the scene. So you could say 'As soon as he had gone up I left.' (And if there were two hes, it would be correct: 'As soon as he [=Tom] had gone up he [=Dick] came down' - correct, but improbable; and unclear.)

    Re: As soon as

"No sooner had he gone up than he came back down" is an option as well.

    Re: As soon as

OK, so it is unsafe to use "Had done" here.
