    according to its kind

24 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
    (NIV; Genesis 1)

Would you be so kind as to explain to me what 'its' refers to?

    Thanks.

    Re: according to its kind

    I am not a teacher.

This passage is about the different types of living creatures that God was bringing into being.

Each creature belonging to a 'category' of creature. So, "its" refers to each individual creature.

    Re: according to its kind

"According to its kind" means that each species will produce offspring of that species, not some other species.
