    for how long

    Hello,

I'd like to know which of these sentences is correct, or if both are:

For how long would you like to rent the apartment?
How long would you like to rent the apartment for?

    Many thanks

    Re: for how long

They're OK, but I wouldn't use the first. I'd use the second or not use for at all.

    Re: for how long

I'd say they're both OK. But I agree the second is better.
However, I wouldn't say "How long are you going to rent the apartment?", as Tdol suggests is good. It's possible to use that structure (without 'for') in some sentences, eg. "How long are you staying?" but to me, using "How long" without 'for' doesn't work in most sentences.
These all sound unnatural to me:
"How long did you sleep?"; "How long are you in Britain?"; "How long are you going away?".

    Re: for how long

I would use the second, with or without "for". The are both good for me.
