1.Girls usually can bake a blueberry muffin, was this question for challenging her or something?
2. Does "white hair" imply his long life experience even for baking a blueberry muffin?

The meeting was set up to introduce her to the South. Among the people present was Jim Buck Ross, who, after exchanging a few words with Ferraro, asked her "Can you bake a blueberry muffin?" Ferraro answered, "I sure can. Can you?" All over America, southerners reading about this exchange looked at one another and sighed. It was obvious that Ferraro had just thrown away the southern vote and she couldn't recover it. Jim Buck Ross had been Mississippi's commissioner of agriculture for more than fifteen years. But that is not the point. The point is that he was seventy years old when he asked the candidate if she could bake a blueberry muffin, and he had the white hair to prove it. In the South

Not every female on this planet bakes. And many who bake don't make muffins. People have their specialties.
A woman running for Vice President of the United States is not a "girl."
White hair is a sign of age. One's baking habits have no impact on the whiteness of one's hair.

All that said, we'd have to know what followed to know why asking a man if he can bake is seen as such a sin, even the South, where most men barbecue and their women-folk do the baking.
