    If you define "thinking" as the ability to process information then yes, a computer "thinks." Computers only do what they are told to do, unlike humans.. well, most humans

    "Thinking" is more than the ability to process information. A lot of thinking involves something called "self-awareness"; we humans have a sense of identity, we are aware of ourselves, and we even have the ability to think about thinking -- we are "self-referential". No computer has ever been built that has ever demonstrated self-awareness.

    Computers do not know or understand anything. You only have to use Babelfish to convince yourself of that: the result is often almost unintelligible because computers simply follow set rules and regulations without understanding that they are trying to communicate with another being.
