    same/the same

Except for the convention: "Same here" and "I felt scared, (the) same as everybody else", I find it hard to find the word "same"
without the definite article "the". However, I have found constructions like this: "
Are the following sentences same according
to English grammar rules and meaning?
",on the internet more than once.
Would any teacher be so kind as to explain the use of "same" without "the" to me?
    Thanks.

    Re: same/the same

It's incorrect in your example sentence.

    Re: same/the same

I found this for you in Webster's New World College Dictionary:

The expressions same and the same are sometimes used in place of pronouns such as it or one, as in When you have filled out the form, please remit same to this office. As this example suggests, the usage is associated chiefly with business and legal language, and some critics have suggested that it should be reserved for such contexts. But though the usage often does sound stilted, it occurs with some frequency in informal writing, particularly in the phrase lack of same, as in It is a question of money, or lack of same.

    Re: same/the same

Yes, Rover, that's a different context, where 'same' actually refers back to noun - a type of anaphora.

@Joaquin. I think it's safe to use "the same" in all contexts apart from the one Rover has thought of. The fact that you have sentences from non-native speakers using 'same' instead of "the same" is not entirely unusual. Have you found sentences written by native speakers (people who aren't asking about how to speak English) which do this?
