What's the difference between saying:

If I sleep in the bed where will you guys sleep?

VS

If I slept in the bed where would you guys sleep?

There is no appreciable difference. One is a hypothetical, one sounds like it might be a plan. You need a comma after "bed".

I think the comma should be after "bed".
Not a teacher.

May I say that the first one is the first conditional and the second is the second conditional which refers to unlikely situations in the present?
That's what I learnt from grammar sites.

Apologies. I meant after "bed". I have now edited my original post.

Hello, Matthew.:-D
Yes. You're right about the grammar terms.

I don't find the idea of sleeping in a bed a particularly unlikely situation!

I agree. I think way too much has been made of likelihood as it applies to conditionals. Context determines that much more than structure.

Many have said that the first conditional is used for real possibilities while second conditionals are used for situations that are unlikely or improbable. This is true in many cases, but the OP's sentences don't fit that mold.

If I win the lottery, I will retire and move to Florida.
If I won the lottery, I would retire and move to Florida.

The probability of the person winning the lottery is the same in both sentences.

Neither do I, but if there are six people and one bed, the second conditional might be a hypothetical and less selfish way of discussing the issue of who sleeps where.
