    it looks ...

"And it looks _______. Can you hear the gunshots from nearby Favelas?"

I cannot hear the word after "looks" in this news. Is it "flush"?

    Thanks!

    Re: it looks ...

It sounds like "flush" to me. I think "favela" is singular.

    Re: it looks ...

I've listened to it three or four times and it sounds like either "flush" or "blush" to me, neither of which make sense. I thought perhaps it was meant to be "flash" - ie the area looks "flash" (posh/rich) but gunfire can be heard from nearby.

I heard "plush" (http://www.macmillandictionary.com/d.../british/plush). And it certainly is "favela".

Hah! Charliedeut - you've cracked it! It's "plush". Well done.

    Re: it looks ...

I have listened again and now I hear "plush". With either "flush" or "plush" my guess is that this refers to a wealthy area not too far from a depressed area where gunshots occur.

    Thanks!
PS: I know the Thank You button. But somehow it didn't work this morning on my computer. So I wrote the "thanks" message instead to show my gratitude.

Give us a break, Jason! You've been a member long enough to know that there is no need to write a new post to say Thank you. That's what the Thank button is for.
