Hello All,
I want to know is there any corresponding or synonym word f or 'brain-dump' to use in formal essay?
I want to use that word in a formal essay and need to know is there any synonym for it?
Tests are meant to be challenging and will require a candidate to think about their response rather than just do a brain-dump of everything they know.
Thanks.

You might say "rather than repeat verbatim what they have been taught". I agree that "brain-dump" would not be appropriate for a formal essay.

I had never come across "brain-dump" until now.

You could also use regurgitate what they have been taught.

I also thought of "regurgitate", but I wasn't sure it is right for a formal essay.

I thought for a moment about it, but decided it was suitably Latinate.
