    check (to see) whether

    The document should be checked (to see) whether it is appropriate for a review.

    In the above sentence, is "to see" necessary? I think so, but I saw a sentence without it. It's written by a non-native speaker though.

    Or, maybe you would say "... checked "for" whether..."?

    '...to see' is necessary.

    '...checked for whether' doesn't work for me.

    I'd accept "checked for whether". "Checked whether" isn't right.
    "The document should be checked whether it is appropriate for a review or not" obviously has an ambiguous meaning.
    There are alternatives to "to see", such as "to ascertain", "to determine" etc.
