    Crowded into - meaning!

    Hello

What does "crowded into" mean? If we say for example Africans crowded into the country and multiplied until their population increased. Does that mean immigration into the country? Or could it have another meaning like natural increase? Thanks in advance

    Not a teacher.

If people crowd or are crowded into a place, they fill it completely.

It means they 'gathered together in large numbers' (Collins Dictionary)

SUJANLONDON, it does not mean they filled it completely. Please read this extract from the Forum Rules

It does, but I guess that it's through immigration in this text.

    Re: Crowded into - meaning!

They entered the country in large numbers, causing a crowd of them to exist in that country. This can be used figuratively - they don't all have to be in exactly the same place, in an actual crowd. You can say something like "This country is crowded with immigrants" when what you mean is something like "Over 10% of the population is now made up of immigrants". Whether that's a crowd or not probably depends on your attitude to immigration generally.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

"Africans crowded into the country and multiplied until their population increased."
    That's a very poor sentence.
