    of twenty years

    Which are correct:

1-My brother, of twenty years, came to help me.

2-My brother, of twenty years of age, came to help me.

3-I talked to my sister, of twenty-two years.

4-I talked to my sister, of twenty-two years of age.

To me '1' and '2' sound OK and '3' and '4' don't. '4' does sound a bit better than '3' to me. The commas do not seem necessary in any of them. Maybe they are supposed to imply that I had only one brother/sister. But I don't think they really do that. They just turn the age into a parenthetical comment.

    Gratefully,
    Navi.

    Re: of twenty years

You might say something like "my wife of twenty years" but that refers to how long she has been your wife, not how old she is.

Your brother has always been your brother so it makes no sense to say "of twenty years."

    Try "my 22-year-old brother."
