Prefer not + infinitive or gerund

    Hi,

Can anyone tell me if I can use a gerund after "prefer not"?

    For example

    I prefer not telling you.
    They prefer not going.
    She prefers not sleeping.

Or do I have to use an infinitive.

I prefer not to tell you.
    They prefer not to go.
    She prefers not to sleep.

    I found the answer. :)

Why don't you share what you learned?
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

Re: Prefer not + infinitive or gerund

I have just returned to the website today after a busy week and have read you message.

I learned that iIn an positive sentence the gerund and infinitive mean the same after prefer but I can't use the gerund after prefer in a negative sentence I have to use infinitive.

    I hope I correct.
