    What phrase can I use to mean to score a goal in basketball?

    He scored.
    He made a three-pointer.
    He made a layup.
    He got a basket.
    He scored a basket. (less likely)
    He scored a field goal.
    He scored 20 points.
    I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
