    column in the table

I am not sure what to say the first box in the table in English?

I am going to ask my students to list their souces and key ideas using a table for their term paper as seen below. In that case, can I say as follows? If it does not sound natural, what do you say?

You should list your sources and key ideas using the table. In the first column, write or type sources and list the materials you refered to to write a paper. In the second column , write/or tyhpe key ideas and list all the main points that you want to use or include in your essay.

    Re: column in the table

You may say 'the left/right column'.
