From the Australian 7 news - how do they pronounce "L"

The above is the Video about AU rugby player Carney being sacked, you can start from 3:00, when the reporter mentioned "NRL", she sounds like NR"will" to me!!

my question is:
- how exactly did the female reporter pronounce the word "L"?
- is that Australian accent? or "L" actually should be pronounced like that??

That lady has, for me, a very pronounced Australian accent. You're right that it doesn't sound like "ell" which is how we say it in British English, but she simply uses the pronunciation of her particular Australian accent.

Note to other users - if you paste that link into your browser and wait for it to play, you will get an advert which, at first glance, could be construed to be porn. It is a legitimate advert for a particular medical condition to do with intimacy. However, I suggest everyone skips straight to 3:00 for the relevant part of the news story.

I suggest they watch the first presenter who says 'NRL' in a more usual Australian accent, at about 0:15-0:16.
The women has an accent that we call 'broad', and will probably keep her as a field reporter rather than a major desk reporter.
At about 2:10 you'll get a typical football player's rendition of 'NRL'.

Most of the time it should be a Coles(supermarket) advert, which seems to be more legitimate haha

She has a strong Australian accent to my ear, but you will find British speakers who pronounce the letter like that.

I am very sure the author has heard George W. Bush speak. I am really not that familiar with Tony Abbott's speech to make a comparison with W's. If you could provide a good sample video of Tony Abbott's speech I would appreciate it.

For me personally, I think that the Australian and British accents are two of the best English accents and they are the only voices I listen to when I use text-to-speech.

I think you should bear in mind that the author is not an outsider and the article is self-criticism.

My questions are:
- How exactly did the female reporter pronounce the letter "L"? It sounds a little like "ol" or "oel" to me.
- Is that an Australian accent? Yes. Or should "L" actually be pronounced like that? It's her accent. I don't think there's a should or a shouldn't. It's just the way people talk where she comes from.
