    five students' rooms

1-Five students' rooms were damaged in the fire.

Can we tell if 'the rooms of five students' were damaged or 'five rooms belonging to students' were damaged.

It is possible that each student had more than one room. It is also possible that the rooms were owned collectively by all students.

    Gratefully,
    Navi.

    Re: five students' rooms

I think you are reaching here. For me, there are five students with one room each.

If this were the case, we'd probably phrase it in a way to make it clear.
