Hi everybody,
this is my first post in this forum, so I want to greet this community!!
I am currently writing a cover letter for a PhD in Organic Chemistry. I am not sure about my grammar and about the fact that the letter.
Thank you all in advance. Here is my letter:
Dear Prof. ***,
I am GS , writing this letter to explore the possibility of finding a suitable doctoral position in your esteemed research group. I have completed my master degree with specialization in Organic Chemistry at University of ****. in December 2013.
During my last academic year, I had a chance to do my internship and master thesis in Department of Organic Chemistry University of ****. There I developed my knowledge in organic synthesis testing and studying reactivity of benzendisulfonimmide as new catalyst in reactions of formation of new CC bonds.
I tested reactivity of carbocations generated in situ from alcohols, for acid-catalyzed elimination of a water molecule, and styrenes, in the presence of catalytic amounts o-benzendisulfonimmide, with various nucleophiles trying to optimize the reaction conditions always turning our gaze at the Green Chemistry: solventless reactions, atom economy and at room temperature.
After my graduation, I worked for **** s.r.l. where my research work dealt with synthesis of strigolactones, using coupling reactions catalyzed by transition metals, and cyclization reactions and allylic bromination.
Since March I decided to spend a short period abroad, to be more precise in Cambridge, to improve my English.
Finally I just sat for a exam to be a registered chemists.
I have explored your department’s website in detail, and it seems like an excellent fit for me because I could follow my career goal of becoming an organic chemist, for these reason I will glad if you accept me as a member of your research group.
I must add here that my budget does not let me to pay the tuition as it is very expensive and I am in need of receiving scholarship, so it would be a kind of you take this case in your considerations.
I have attached a brief resume of mine to this e-mail that contains further information about my qualifications and experiences. Should you want further information, please contact me.
I know you are very busy so I appreciate any time you can give me. Thanks very much.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
GS
