    Past Perfect and until


    Is this sentence OK?

    I had always thought Charlie Chaplin was American until I read about him on Wikipedia.

    Do I need a comma before "until"?

    No, don't put a comma there. Your sentence is correct as written.
    I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
