Did you not find him at home ? vs Did not/Didn't you find him at home?

    case 1:-
out of following sentences which one is/are correct ?

1:- Did you not find him at home ?
2 :- Did not you find him at home ?
    3 :- Didn't you find him at home ?

    strange thing is that :-
1:-Google search for :-"did you not find him" gets 11,60,00,000 results
2:-Google search for :-"didn't you find him" gets 8,94,00,000 results
3:-Google search for :-"did not you find him" gets only 2 results

so is there any difference in 2nd and third sentence or didn't equals did not ? if they are same then why is whopping difference in Google searches 2 and 3 ?

also both 1 and 2 got plenty of results so are they both correct or people use so much contaminated English ?

    case 2:-
out of the following sentences which is/are correct ?
1:-Why did you not go home ?
2:-Why did not you go home?
3:-Why you did not go home ?

There is a very good reason why Google returns only two hits for "did not you find him", it's incorrect. In "case 2" #3 is incorrect.

    I am not a teacher.

Case 1. Sentences 1. and 3. are correct and 2. is wrong.

Case 2. Only 1. is correct.

The problem with the incorrect sentences is the word order, which is completely unnatural.

Simply doing a Google search is not going to give you definitive answers on grammar. The fact that you have written 'Did not you find him at home?', coupled with the fact that I have just quoted you, will add to the number of search results for that particular string without the sentence itself having become any more correct.

    I agree, I missed sentence 2, case 2.

Re: Did you not find him at home ? vs Did not/Didn't you find him at home?

Sir ,you are right ,(Plain)google search will not give any idea regarding grammatically correct sentence as the users using casual language outnumber the users using proper language.

So I must Google search in "Google BOOKS search" because a great many chances are there that books are grammatically correct.

so results of google book searches are as following:-
"did you not find him" 27,200 results
"didn't you find him" 28,100 results
"did not you find him" 2 results
so you was right that sentence 1 and 3 are correct.

    Now coming to case 2

1:- "Why did you not go" 2,69,000 results
2:- "Why did not you go" 44,600 results
3:- "Why you did not go" 64,500 results

    4:- "Why didn't you go" 8,79,000 results
it can be seen from the results that 1 and 4 has heavenly outnumbered others so they must be correct but at the same time I am flabbergasted that even the google book search is fetching so many results for sentence 2 and 3 of case 2.Does it mean that our books are so much contaminated with wrong grammar? :O

Re: Did you not find him at home ? vs Did not/Didn't you find him at home?

"Tell me why you did not go" will generate 3. It's completely normal.
I can't explain the string of words in 2. But, as I explained in another of your posts, there are reasons other than wrong grammar that strange strings can turn up.

PS: There are increasingly more books written by non-native speakers, and they are not all corrected before being published. That's one disadvantage of English being the lingua franca.
